Boonville- Timothy Walden Ervay, 73, passed away peacefully at his residence in Boonville, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

He was born in Rome, on August 9, 1951, a son of Dr. Jack R. and Maxine W. Ervay. Tim grew up on Schuyler St. in Boonville and graduated from Adirondack High School, Boonville, with the Class of 1970. While in high school, Tim excelled in playing baseball, golf, and basketball. He was a member of the Adirondack High School Varsity Basketball team from 10th grade through his senior year. To quote Mr. Raymond Borden, team coach, “Tim is remembered for being outstanding at playing the position of guard,” and in a further quote from the 1969 Adirondack Yearbook and also backed up from Coach Borden, “Tim’s ball handling wizardry, led the ‘Cats to a 1968-1969 season Intervalley League Title and a two year record of 35 team wins and 7 losses, with Tim playing as the starting point guard. The 1969 title win was the first basketball league title for Adirondack (Boonville) Schools since 1942.

Following high school, Tim furthered his education attending college, until entering the service of his country in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in May, 1973, with rank of SP4, earning the National Defense Service Medal and an expert badge in rifle and pistol. From 1973, until his honorable discharge in 1977, Mr. Ervay served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

After his Army service, Tim was employed on the re-construction and revival of the Adirondack Railroad, in preparation for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY. Later he was employed for several years at Revere Copper and Brass, Rome. He was also employed as a caretaker of wild game animals and cross-country trail maintenance for Gilbert Butler’s estate, near Boonville.

From an early age Tim was an avid outdoorsman, a person who greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He hunted and fished throughout upstate New York with many lifelong friends. He also had wonderful hunting dogs, Simon, Jake, and Amax, that he considered family.

Tim is survived by his sisters, Julee E. Stanley, of Peabody, MA, and Jodie E. Bradshaw, her husband Carlton III and son Carlton IV, of Marblehead, MA and many hunting friends. He was predeceased by his parents; Jack, in 1975 and Maxine, in 1979.

In Keeping with Tim’s wishes, services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Boonville Fire Department Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 164, Boonville, NY 13309. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville, NY.
