Town of New Scotland- Susan (Clark) LaFave Levesque, a former resident of Lyons Falls, NY, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026. Susan was born in 1932 in Clinton, NY, daughter of Edward Clark and Hannah (Hughes Bingham) Clark. She graduated from Clinton High School and Utica College School of Nursing. She met Verne LaFave in nursing school, where the two fell in love. They married and had five children within the next eight years. Tragically, Verne passed away in 1964 at the age of 31; Susan was left a 32-year-old widow with five children between the ages of 1 and 9. Nonetheless she persevered; she worked as a Registered Nurse, first at the Sunset Nursing home and then (for most of her working life) as the plant nurse at the Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper Company (formerly Georgia Pacific Pulp & Paper) in Lyons Falls. There, she helped many employees be healthier, and she made many lasting friendships.
Susan enjoyed visiting with members of her large family, travelling, studying Welsh, documenting the extended family tree, volunteering at the Forest Presbyterian Church store, knitting, and spending summers at the Buck Lake family camp. Susan also enjoyed her “lunches with the girls,” which was a tradition that went on for decades.
Susan saw many parts of the world including Wales, where her family originated, England, France, Italy, Hawai’i, Japan, and more. She also visited many US states and spent several seasons living in Florida and Vermont with her Granddaughter Hannah.
Susan never forgot to smile and always had the right quip at the right moment, surprising and delighting those around her. She was always a bit funnier with a glass of wine under her belt.
She married her second husband, Thomas Levesque, in 1970. Thomas predeceased her in 2017. She was also predeceased by her son, Thomas LaFave; her daughter-in-law, Lori Tiffany LaFave; and her stepdaughter, Teresa Levesque Lynch. She leaves four children, Anne LaFave Green (Charles Zimmerman) of Lyons Falls, Cynthia LaFave (Paul Rapoli) of Voorheesville, Michael LaFave (Eileen Clinton) of North Greenbush, and John LaFave (Satomi Imagawa LaFave) of Altamont; three stepchildren, Bonnie Levesque of Forestport, Georgianna Feller (Joseph Feller) of Boonville, and Tama Lunceford of Nashville, TN; and numerous loving Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren, as well as many adored nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday July 2, from 11 AM until 1 PM at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St., Boonville. Funeral services at the funeral home will follow at 1 PM, with interment thereafter in the Boonville Cemetery.
