Port Leyden- Raymond L. Poore, Sr. 83, of Murphy Road, husband of the late Beverly J., passed away at his residence on Friday, July 11, 2025.

He was born in Port Leyden, on March 24, 1942, a son of Lewis and Erma Webster Poore. He graduated from Port Leyden Central School, with the Class of 1960. From 1961 until his honorable discharge Mr. Poore served his country in the U.S. Army, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. From 1963-1967, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves, with an honorable discharge. For many years Mr. Poore was employed in various aspects of paper manufacturing at Burrows Paper Company, Lyonsdale. He also worked road construction and for a time was employed for the Town of Lyonsdale Highway Dept.

On August 17, 1963, Raymond was united in marriage with Beverly J. Boardman, at the Boonville Methodist Church. The couple resided on Murphy Road, near Port Leyden for many years. Mrs. Poore, a seamstress at Lally Manufacturing Co. Port Leyden and a councilwoman on the Lyonsdale Town Board, passed away on May 18, 2025.

Ray greatly enjoyed attending the Lewis County and Boonville Oneida County Fairs, especially the demolition derbies at each fair. He also enjoyed attending the annual New York State Woodsmen’s Field Days, in Boonville.

He is survived by his children: Janet (Stephen) White, Cindy (Ronald) Shue, Raymond Jr. (Rae) Poore, Ricky (Gail) Poore and Tina Poore; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings: Jean (Bob) Teal, Diane Freeman, Elmer (Liz) Poore, Gladys Monaski, Nancy Scouten, Susan Martin, George (Effie) Poore, Sidney Lewis (Terry) Poore, Dale (Chet) Toureville, Terry (George) White and Sister in law, Barbara Boardman. He was predeceased by his brothers in law, Roderick Freeman, Gilbert Martin, Chuck Monaski, Jim Scouten.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls, where Pastor Daniel Richter will officiate and where members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and the Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, all of Boonville, will confer Military Rites. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the J.S. Koster Hose Co. P.O. Box #652, Port Leyden, New York 13433. His arrangements are in care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
