Boonville – Phyllis A. Winters, 85, of Kortenaer Village, and widow of Harold J., passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Wynn Hospital, Utica.
Phyllis was born on Potato Hill, Town of Boonville, on June 9, 1940, the daughter of James F. and Anna Mae Yost Sturtevant. She received her education at Boonville Central School. On May 4, 1957, Phyllis was united in marriage with Harold J. Winters at the Boonville Methodist Church. The couple settled on Sudol Hill Road, where Phyllis resided until 2015. Mr. Winters, a retired papermaker at Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper, and a US Airforce veteran of the Korean War died on May 10, 2015.
As well as a homemaker and loving mother, Phyllis was employed as a waitress at Ruth’s Diner, Remsen, and also at Slim’s Restaurant Boonville. For a time she was also employed as a clerk at the Ben Franklin 5&10, Boonville. For twenty years Phyllis was employed as a dietary aide at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville.
Phyllis had a love and passion for live music events. Many evenings were spent at Freddy’s Diner, the VFW, and other local establishments, where she danced the night away. She also enjoyed her collection of anything butterfly, and had a scarf or two for each outfit.
She is survived by her children: Laurie and Gordon Hastwell, Sr. and their children: Gordon (Dianah) Hastwell, Jr., Laura (Christen) Hastwell, and Thomas (Stephanie) Hastwell, Ramona Rickard and her children: Nicole, Rachel, and Jamie Rickard, and Michael (Patricia) Winters and their children: Michael C. (Rachel) Winters, Nicholas, and Tiffany Winters. She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Abigail Winters, Corabelle Winters, Lucas Hastwell, and Annie, as well as her companion and loving friend William Stanton.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, at 4:00 pm at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. Jack Ford, pastor of Boonville Methodist Church will officiate. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 pm until the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box #7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
