Concord, California- Orrin Carpenter, Jr., 80, a longtime resident of Concord, California and a former resident of Boonville, passed away at his residence on October 14, 2025.

Orrin was born on August 26, 1945, a son of Orrin and Doreen Jackson Carpenter, Sr. He grew up in Locust Grove and Port Leyden areas and received his education at Port Leyden Central School. After graduating high school, with the Class of 1963, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served until his honorable discharge.

Orrin lived in Washington, D.C. for several years, working for the Federal Reserve Bank. He eventually moved to San Francisco, and then to Concord, CA. While he loved visiting family in New York, his heart was in Concord. Following his time at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Orrin moved on to serve as the Director of Administration for the Clinical Education Division at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, before his retirement in 2001.

Living a life of service was Orrin’s daily motivation and in November of 2001, Orrin became the Manager at the Conta Costa Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous, in Walnut Creek, CA. His words of wisdom and encouragement, as well as his humor, brought help to those who knew him.

Orrin is survived by his sisters; Florence (Larry) Goodheart, Lowville, NY, Karen Carpenter, Boonville, NY, Karla (Tim) Roth, Boonville, NY, Linda (Ron) Fruin, Boonville, NY; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Orrin was predeceased by his parents, Orrin and Doreen Jackson Carpenter, two brothers; Timothy Jackson Carpenter and David William Carpenter, and a nephew, Scott Kayden Loomis. He was also predeceased by his life partner, Austin Wooten Snow.

A private committal service will be held in Turin Cemetery, in the Spring of 2026. There will be no calling hours or other services.

Over his lifetime, Orrin possessed a love and affection for animals of all kinds and especially his canine friends. Memorial contributions may be made to a humane society of your choice, or to a local chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, NY.
