Boonville, NY, Clearwater, FL. Mildred Alder-Johnson, a dedicated social worker and beloved family matriarch, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and community service. Born on June 25, 1935, in Woodland, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Joe D. Brents and Donna Lucille Brents. Mildred's early life saw her family move to Blytheville, Arkansas, where she spent her formative teenage years and graduated from high school.
Mildred's commitment to helping others led her to pursue a Master's Degree in Social Work from Adelphi University in New York. Her passion and expertise were recognized with certifications from the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW) and as a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC). For many years, she maintained an active social work counseling and therapy practice in Rome, New York. There, she was not only a respected professional but also an engaged member of the community, touching countless lives with her dedication and care.
Mildred's personal life was rich and full. She was first married to Howard D. Alder (deceased). From this union, she was a loving mother to James P. Alder, Roxane Hannafon, George S. Alder, and her late daughter, Ruby N. Foster.
On July 17th, 1992, Mildred embarked on a new chapter, marrying Lt. Col (Ret.) Victor V. Johnson, Jr. in a ceremony in Taberg, New York. After her retirement, she and Victor relocated to the sunny shores of Clearwater Beach, Florida, to enjoy their well-deserved leisure.
Mildred's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her devoted husband, Lt. Col (Ret.) Victor V. Johnson, Jr.; her children, James P. Alder, Roxane Hannafon, and George S. Alder; and her numerous grandchildren: Tammie Brandon, Christopher Alder, Cody Hannafon, Geoffrie Alder, Michael Alder, George S. Alder II, Elisabeth Tidwell, James M. Johnson, and Dr. William L. Johnson.
She is also survived by her siblings Lillian Nazario, Frances Ivy, and JD Brents; her sister-in-law Nancy James; and brother-in-law Peter (Diane) Johnson and daughters-in-law Marianna Alder and Sharon Alder.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joe D. Brents and Donna Lucille Brents; her daughter, Ruby N. Foster; her first husband, Howard D. Alder; her step-son, Victor V. Johnson III; and five siblings.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to nurses Elke Grippo, Tracy Bahlweiner, and Sara Gillispie for their dedicated years of loving care provided to Mildred.
Mildred Alder-Johnson's life was one of purpose, service, and love. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the multitude of other lives she touched, a community indeed too numerous to fully name.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services, at 1:00 P.M., on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Valley View Cemetery, Oneida, NY. Calling hours will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Point Rock United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 142, Lee Center, NY 13363. Please indicate for Point rock UMC on your check.
