Michael D. Roberts

Forestport – Michael D. Roberts, 69, of River Street, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 22, 2026, while under the care of Hospice at his brother’s home in Taberg.

Michael was born in Rome on April 17, 1956. The son of Irving and Elizabeth Roberts Bartholomay, he grew up in Remsen where he received his education at Remsen Central School. Following his education Michael also obtained his NYS Certified Welding certificates. For many years Michael was employed with Holland Patent Leasing, where he drove a milk truck and also worked as a mechanic. For several years thereafter Michael was a deliveryman for Mercer’s Dairy in Boonville.

On August 13, 1995 Michael was united in marriage with Martha Fallon in Remsen. The couple made their home on River Street, Forestport, where Michael has since lived. Mrs. Roberts passed away on September 28, 2017.

An avid outdoorsman, Michael could often be found fishing the many streams, ponds, and rivers of the north country, and also enjoyed hunting in years past. For years, Michael loved tending to his vegetable and fruit garden enjoying and sharing the bountiful harvest with family and friends. Affectionately known as the community mechanic, there wasn’t a broken piece of machinery, automobile, or tool that anyone could bring Michael that didn’t leave his home in working condition. Many morning coffees were enjoyed at Forestport Diner, one of Michaels favorite places to spend time.

He is survived by his daughter Lindsay Meeker, Lowville, his brother Robert (Rhonda) Bartholomay, Taberg, brother Irving “Bumpster” Bartholomay, Remsen, grandchildren: Branden Lee Vosburgh, Lucas Meeker, and Shannah Deland, nieces and nephews: Timothy “TJ” Bartholomay, James Bartholomay, and Jessica Jerold, and step-children: Robin Bates, Debbie (John) Sege, Daniel “Skip” Edick and their families. He is also survived by many special friends including Shane Mooney, Don (Kathy) Dewey, Renee Migliaccio, and Ray Hotaling and his longtime canine companion Buddy “Little Man”. Besides his wife Martha, Michael was predeceased by his parents.

In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours or service. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at the family home on River Street, Forestport beginning at 5:00 pm.
