West Leyden, NY – Joseph R. Grenier, Jr., 69, of Fish Creek Road, West Leyden, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Wynn Hospital in Utica, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Joe was born on February 3, 1957, in Rome, NY, the son of Joseph R. Grenier, Sr. and Theresa M. (Montana) Grenier. He spent his early childhood in West Leyden, where he attended West Leyden Elementary School. He later moved with his family to Buffalo before settling in Oneida, where he completed his education.
On June 17, 2000, Joe married Jannell M. Anderson in West Leyden. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories at their home on Fish Creek Road.
Joe dedicated over 27 years of his career to Bartell Machinery Manufacturing Co. in Rome, where he worked as a machinist.
A talented and skilled woodworker, Joe took great pride in creating beautiful, handcrafted furniture using a variety of woods. He enjoyed kayaking, watching NASCAR races and above all, Joe treasured the simple things in life — spending time at home with his wife, being surrounded by family, and sharing good times and conversations with friends.
Family meant so much to Joe, and he especially cherished his role as a “Paka”. Whether spending time together at home or making memories with his grandchildren, he found great happiness in being part of their lives. His love, craftsmanship, and the memories he created with those closest to him will be forever treasured.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Jannell; his daughter, Maisie M. (Steven) Grenier of Boonville; two stepsons, Branden A. (Morgan) Nellenback of Baldwinsville and Douglas J. Nellenback of Lowville; five beloved grandchildren, Dayton, Callan, Lainey, Arica, and Evan; and his brother, Ken (Kathy) Grenier of Boonville.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Theresa Grenier, his sister, Pam Kehoe, and his brother, Bruce Grenier.
Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in celebration of Joe’s life on Saturday, November 7, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Milk Plant Tavern, Route 26, West Leyden, NY.
