John Joseph Mudge

John Joseph Mudge, 60, of Rome, NY, died on Thursday, September 17th, 2026.

John was born on March 18th, 1966, to Millard W. and Dorothy (Watson) Mudge. John grew up in Westernville, NY, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1985. John went on to work as a skilled auto body mechanic for many decades.

John loved traveling with his friends, rooting for the 49ers, and working on cars of all kinds. Before their deaths, John was a faithful caregiver to both of his parents, lovingly devoting his time and attention to their needs as their health failed.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest sister, Nancy Mudge. He is survived by his sisters Karen Mudge Quick of Minoa, NY, Mary Elizabeth (Clifford) Kostuk of Cortland, NY, William (Shari) Mudge of Clay, NY, dear friends Larry and Toby Vergalito, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A celebration of John’s life will take place on Friday, September 25th, from 5pm-7pm at Chris’s Grub & Pub, 416 W Dominick St., Rome, NY.
