John D. Marcy

Boonville- John D. Marcy, 77, of Kolasa Road, husband of Rebecca, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, while surrounded by the loving care of his wife and family.

Affectionately known as “Otto” to many, John was born in Boonville, on June 29, 1948, a son of Dean L. and Laura Dutch Marcy. He grew up on a farm on the Lewis Road, near Boonville and graduated from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1966. While in high school, John enjoyed and excelled at playing soccer, basketball and baseball.

On August 10, 1966, during the Viet Nam War, John began his service to his country and was inducted in the U.S. Airforce, at Syracuse, NY. He served stateside and also in Guam, as an aircraft mechanic, before returning to serve at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, continuing as an aircraft mechanic on B-52 bombers. On August 7, 1970, John was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

On February 8, 1969, John married the love of his life, Rebecca J. Wittwer, at St. Joseph’s Church, Boonville. Later for many years the couple lived on Main St., before moving to their present home on Kolasa Road.

Upon his discharge from the Airforce, John returned to Boonville, where he immediately began employment at General Telephone Co. During his employment, which spanned for over thirty years, John worked in the telephone equipment installation and repair department, before retiring from Frontier Communications, also in Boonville.

John was a member of Harland J. Hennessey V.F.W., Charles J. Love Post American Legion and the Boonville Elks Lodge # 2158.

Over the years he enjoyed playing town team basketball and soft ball and also joined the After 50 Basketball Team in Lowville. In addition, John found enjoyment in playing on several golf teams at Woodgate Pines Golf Course, and bowling on teams in the Thursday and Friday night Bowling leagues. John will be fondly remembered for his coaching skills at the BYAA Ball park in Boonville, where he coached Little League, Babe Ruth and American Legion Baseball Teams.

When not participating in a sporting activity, John watched Yankee Baseball, P.G.A. Golf and also P.G.A. Bowling. For many years, John was a fixture at and greatly enjoyed attending Adirondack Central School basketball and baseball games. John possessed the ability to brighten any location with his smile, wit and ready ability to visit with people and enjoyed partaking in the morning “coffee club,” at Stewarts. He and Rebecca also enjoyed traveling to visit their children.

In addition to Rebecca, his loving wife of fifty seven years, John is survived by his greatly loved children; Michael and Catherine Marcy, Quincy, MA, Julie and Jason Makenzie, Bettendorf, IA and Michelle and Porter Odenbach, Franktown, CO; grandchildren, Jack and Luke Thompson, PJ and Grady Odenbach; one sister, Terry Marcy and Peg Nuspliger, Lyons Falls. In addition to his parents, Dean and Laura, John was predeceased by a brother, James D. Marcy, in 1976.
