Boonville- Jeanne Cerro, formerly of Main St., passed away on April 10, 2026, at the age of 99. She was born on January 22, 1927, in Oxford, PA and was the daughter of Herbert Fretz, Sr., and Lillian Pierce Fretz. She attended school in Oxford and graduated from Oxford Area High School, in June of 1944.
After graduating, she worked as a civilian employee at the US Army Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Maryland. While there she met her future husband, Sgt. Domenic Cerro, through a mutual friend.
After the war, Jeanne and Domenic married and moved to Boonville, Domenic’s hometown. They bought their house on Main St. in 1960 and spent their many years together making a home and raising a family. In addition to being homemaker, she worked various jobs in and around town as a telephone operator and as a bookkeeper at several local businesses.
Jeanne was predeceased by her husband Domenic, her brothers, Carl (Eleanor) and Herbert (Erma) Edward. She is survived by two sons, Richard (Robin) of Liverpool, NY, and Jeffrey (Betty) of Poquoson, VA. She is also survived by grandchildren, Matthew (Kate) and Joanna (Erik). Great grandsons, Dominic and William and by additional family and friends in New York state and Pennsylvania.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Bayside Nursing Home in Poquoson, VA for their considerate and professional care over the last year of Jeanne’s life.
In accordance with Jeanne’s wishes there are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 12:30 P.M. at St. Joseph’s church, Boonville, where Rev. Thomas Ward will officiate. Interemnt will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Stevens Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio Street, Utica, NY 13502 or The Dodge-Pratt-Northam Community and Art Center, 106 Schuyler St. Boonville, NY 13309 or to Erwin Library & Institute, 104 Schuyler St. Boonville, NY 13309.
