Port Leyden- Helen E. (McCauley) Hoffert, 65, of Hunkins Road, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse. In March of 2026, Helen was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, of which she fought with courage and unwavering strength.
Helen was born in Constableville, on February 12, 1961, a daughter of John and June McCauley of Boonville. She received her education at Adirondack Central School. Throughout the years, Helen stayed busy and dedicated, working in various retail positions across the North Country, as well as at Lock 96 Store, Port Leyden, Clark’s Beach Motel, Old Forge and at Otis Manufacturing Plant, Lyons Falls, NY. She took pride in her work and developed many friendships along the way.
On May 19, 1979, Helen was united in marriage with her soulmate, Terrence Hoffert, Sr. Helen was an amazing woman; always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need or offer a kind word. She was a hard worker, a loyal friend and possessed a heart of gold.
Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She cherished time spent with her family and friends, finding joy in the simple moments and the company of those she loved most. She enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved going for walks with her husband and their canine companions. Helen had a special fondness for dogs. She enjoyed watching the bears which visited her yard and feeding the racoons that frequented her home. She was also an avid bird watcher and enjoyed feeding the birds.
One of Helen’s lifelong passions was the Spring Garage Sale season, a time which she eagerly looked forward to each year and enjoyed sharing with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Terrence Hoffert, Sr., Port Leyden; a daughter Brandy (Josh) Fitzgerald, Lowville; three sons, Terrence (Nana) Hoffert, Jr. Port Leyden, Brandon (Journey) Hoffert, Constableville, and Michael Hoffert, Boonville. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild. four sisters, four brothers and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her parents; four siblings; her son, Channing Hoffert and a grandson, Ryan Sullivan.
In accordance with Helen’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at the Port Leyden Fire Hall. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share their memories and celebrate the life of Helen. Memorial contributions may be made to J.S. Koster Hose Company (Port Leyden Fire Company), P.O.
