George A. Bogert

Remsen - George A. Bogert, known as George, Alfie, Alf, or simply “Bogie” to family and friends, passed away on September 6, 2026, at the age of 76.

Born during a March blizzard on March 21, 1950, in New Paltz, New York, George was the son of George S. and Doris R. Bogert.

Alfie graduated from New Paltz High School and held several jobs throughout the area in his younger years. Many will remember him from Joe’s East West, where he worked the door for Joe for many years. Alf loved to dance and, when the music was right, was known to clear the floor with his moves.

Service to others was an important part of Alf’s life. He was a volunteer firefighter with the New Paltz Fire Department, proudly following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.

Alf later began what would become a more than 30-year career in corrections, working at Green Haven and Wallkill Correctional Facilities. He was especially proud to have been one of the few to earn a perfect score of 100 on the sergeant’s exam. Taking his career from New Paltz to Mid-State and Marcy Correctional Facilities, where he continued his service as a Sargent until his retirement.

It was during this chapter of his life that Alf met his life partner, Diane Jones. They shared more than 33 years together, making their home in Remsen, New York. Diane and Bogie were rarely far from one another. They enjoyed traveling, boat rides on their Kayuta Lake, fireworks from the point, and taking rides together in his prized Mini Cooper.

Family meant a great deal to Alf. He enjoyed spending many holidays surrounded by Diane’s family, sharing good food, laughter, and time together. He loved watching his great-nephew play hockey and following the adventures of his great-niece as she model and traveled the world. Those family gatherings and moments together meant a great deal to him.

Those who knew Alf will remember the smile and laugh with which he greeted everyone with his famous AHOY. He had an endless curiosity about the possibilities and unexplained phenomena of the world. UFOs, Bigfoot, and other mysteries fascinated him, and he loved sharing the latest facts, theories, and findings with anyone willing to listen.

Most of all, Alf had a generous heart. If someone needed help, he was there. He would do anything he could for anyone in need. His kindness, unmistakable laugh, curiosity, and sense of fun will be missed immensely by all who knew and loved him.

Alf is survived by his life partner, Diane Jones; his sister, Georgine Gibbons; his brother, David V. Bogert; his nieces, Tracy Armstrong (Jim), Mie Lowe (Jim), and Stacey Bogert; Diane’s children, Terry Compo, Chris Compo and her partner, Pat Johnson, Tom and Mary Compo, and Sue and her husband, Rusty Baker; along with his extended family and many friends.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 pm.

For those wishing to remember Bogie with a memorial contribution, donations may be made in his name to Toys for Tots or the Stevens-Swan Humane Society in Utica. Supporting either of these organizations in Bogie’s memory would surely make him smile.
