Turin, New York

Turin- EvaMae Swiernik, passed September 2, 2025; she was our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She passed away due to complications of dementia. EvaMae is a daughter of Peter and Sarah Fey Gydesen of Constableville, NY, near Highmarket on the Gydesen Family Homestead Farm, which was located on the Highmarket Road.

EvaMae graduated in 1957, from Constableville Central School. After graduating, she worked at Sunset Nursing and Maternity Hospital, Constableville, Crofoot Implements of Constableville, before employment at National Exchange Bank of Boonville.

On October 25, 1958, EvaMae married her beloved husband, Edward Swiernik. She always said how her dad was mad that day, being the first day of hunting season, so Peter walked her down the aisle and then out the door. After their marriage, the couple Ed and EvaMae began farming on the Potter Farm in Collinsville. In 1964, they purchased the former Gene and Agnita Capron Farm, which became Ed and EvaMae’s forever farm, on Rt. 26, in Turin, where they have since lived.

EvaMae enjoyed a very full life, with running the farm, driving truck for their cattle trucking business and helping with the operation of their farm related business, Turin Livestock, Cattle Shipping and Dairy Supply. After retiring from dairy farming, the couple raised beefalo and founded Ridgeview Stables, offering trail riding, pony rides and therapeutic riding for the ARC. After retiring completely from farming, EvaMae went to work at South Lewis Central School District for 20 years and she also enjoyed employment at the Alpine restaurant making pizzas.

She loved going to polka dances, hiking Snow Ridge for 30 years, while hunting for and finding treasures, doing embroidery and word search books. However, most of all she loved spending time with her amazing family and teaching her daughter and granddaughter how to polka around the kitchen table, while making her famous molasses cookies.

EvaMae is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Edward Swiernik, daughter, BonnyLou (Tim) Mahar, son, Tom Swiernik and son, Tim (Bobbie Jo) Swiernik, grandson, Justin (Amber) Mahar, Granddaughter, Kaitlyn (Robb) Matthews and beautiful Great Granddaughter, Briana Matthews, all of Turin.
