Boonville-Forestport- Dorrinne J. (Jowett) Lyon, age 92, a former longtime resident of Forestport and Boonville and recently residing in Albany, passed away on June 10th, 2025.
Dorrinne was born in Utica, on December 11, 1932, a daughter of William and Miriam Goodell Jowett. She grew up in Chadwicks and moved to Forestport in 1948, where she completed her education at Forestport Central School. She was employed at Marcy Psychiatric Center for many years.
She fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse at age 50, when she attended M.V.C.C. and Utica School of Nursing, earning her Nursing Degree. Dorrinne was employed as a nurse at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Spring House and UCP in Utica and for many years at Mohawk Velley Psychiatric Center, Utica, NY. After retirement, Dorrinne was a care giver for the elderly in the Boonville area.
On July 1, 1950, Dorrinne was united in marriage with Dewey E. Lyon, at Whitesboro Methodist Church. Afterwards the couple settled on Kirkland Road in Forestport, where they lived for many years. Mr. Lyon, a self-employed carpenter, Forestport Town Justice for 25 years and Forestport Town Councilman, passed away on February 28, 1993.
Mrs. Lyon was a member of Forestport Presbyterian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Dorrinne enjoyed reading, gardening, painting and traveling with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time at her camp in Forestport, relaxing with family, tending to her flowers and feeding the birds. She will be remembered for her quick wit, determination and fearless pursuit of her dreams. Known around town as “Dizzy Dori,” she raced snowmobiles and drove in the Demolition Derby at the Boonville Fair and was in her late 60’s when she finally accomplished her goal of winning the Derby! She was a great role model and always encouraged others to never give up on their hopes and dreams.
Most of all, Dorrinne was a wonderful, caring person who always went above and beyond the call of duty to help and serve others. She loved her family and friends and cherished her cats as they shared a special bond.
She is survived by her children; Robert “Bob” Lyon and his significant other, Marie Sherboneau, Forestport; daughter, Becky Lyon-Mullen, Port St. Lucie, FL; son and daughter in law, William “Chip” (Sherry) Lyon, Forestport and daughter in law, Sharon Lyon, Rome. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Christopher (Anne) Lyon, Kenneth Jr. (Jenni) Lyon, Seth (Paula) Lyon, Dylan (Melissa) Lyon, Montana Mullen, Taylor Lyon and nine great grandchildren, her brothers, Donald (Patty) Geddes, Albany, NY, and Carl Geddes, San Diego, CA. Dorrinne will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews who enjoyed spending time with her as she shared a special bond with them. She made a lasting impression on everyone who met her and will be missed by her life-long friends, Roz and Emily.
Dorrinne was predeceased by two sons; Kenneth Lyon, in 1999 and Michael Timothy, in infancy; her brothers, Clarence H. “Whitey” Jowett and Brian Geddes; her sisters, Claudine Geddes and Lazetta “Zettie” Tallerino, her son-in-law, James Mullen. her grandson, Kolby Lyon and her great-granddaughter, Emma May Lyon.
Her family would like to extend a special thank you to Palliative Care Partners and Hospice with St. Peter’s Health Partners in Albany. They provided exceptionally kind nursing and social services. We are also grateful to the family members and caregivers who came to be with her every day, to ensure she had whatever she wanted or needed and to keep Dorrinne company. She appreciate each of you and expressed her gratitude for everything everyone did for her.
Calling hours are Sunday, June 15, 2025, from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where a Memorial Service will begin at 3:00 P.M.
