Port Leyden- Donna Lee Benedict, 78, wife of David M., of State Rt. 12, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, while surrounded by the loving care of her husband, family and Hospice.

Donna was born in Lowville, on May 6, 1948, a daughter to Gordon and Amanda Hoover Larabee. She grew up on Cherry St. Lyons Falls and graduated from South Lewis Senior High School, with The Class of 1966.

On September 3, 1966, Donna was united in marriage with David M. Benedict, at the Turin Methodist Church. Afterwards the couple settled on the East Road, near Turin, where David was involved in the operation of the Benedict Family Dairy Farm.

For over 30 years, until her retirement, Mrs. Benedict was employed in food preparation in the cafeteria at South Lewis School, in Turin. She retired in 2011 and after David retired from farming, the couple relocated to their present home near Port Leyden.

After retirement, the couple enjoyed spending several winters in Florida, where they resided south of Daytona Beach and they also enjoyed going on cruises. In addition, Donna greatly enjoyed shopping, raising flowers, doing crafts and her large collection of thimbles. She also enjoyed spending time with her family; grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of nearly 60 years, David, Donna is survived by two daughters and a son in law, Kimberly (Scott) Coleman, McConnellsville, NY and Danielle Benedict, Boonville. She was predeceased by a daughter, Tracey Abullah, in 2021. Also surviving area seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two sisters, Marlene Kelly, Boonville and Norene (Tom) Jones, Blossvale, NY. Donna was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Stier and by a brother in law, Thomas H. Kelly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services in Turin Cemetery, Turin, NY, on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 10:00 am. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville, NY.
