David Allen Douglass

Boonville- David Allen Douglass passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at age 88. Active and independent, he continued to care for his home and stopped at Stewart’s each morning for coffee and scratch-off tickets to share with his wife, Donna. Dave was the youngest of six, born to Samuel and Laura Douglass at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam NY on November 7, 1937. He grew up on the family homestead in Mill Point. He attended and graduated from Fonda Fultonville High School with the class of 1955. Dave met his wife, Deanne K Burke in high school, proposed to her on September 14, 1956. They were married August 10, 1957. This union lasted 32 years, ending with the passing of Deanne on September 24, 1989. Dave and Deanne were adventurous individuals who loved to go camping, snowmobiling, hiking and any activity that involved the outdoors. He was a “Girl Dad” having three daughters; Donna, Dawn and Denell. Dave was blessed to meet Donna J. Norton, whom he married on October 16th 1993. They kept each other young and out of trouble. After their marriage they traveled all over the US visiting and making friends along the way. Together they spent winters in Satellite Beach Florida, where they enjoyed life to the fullest.

Dave began working as a soda jerk in high school. After graduating, he joined the telephone company as a lineman and advanced to switchman, later serving for a time as general manager of the Pulaski office. His career took him throughout the North Country before he settled in Boonville. He retired at 55 and often joked that he spent more years collecting retirement benefits from the phone company than he had spent working there.

He is survived by his wife Donna, daughter Donna (Alan), Stepdaughter, Paige, Brother RJ, Grandchildren; Lynn (Tim), David (Kaitlyn), Tyler (Katy), Traci, James, Corrine (Chase) and Lanie. Son in law Roy, great grandchildren, Claire, Brynlee, Karlie, Owen and Avery, whom he loved seeing and spending time with and several Nieces and Nephews who affectionately knew him as Uncle Dave.

He was predeceased by his wife, Deanne; daughters, Dawn and Denell; parents, Samuel and Laura; mother-in-law, Elsie; brothers, Samuel, James, and Thomas; sister, Ruthie; and brother- and sister-in-law, Gene and Jackie Dunn.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where calling hours are also Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow in Boonville, Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boonville Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 164, Boonville, NY 13309.
