Utica-Boonville- Carol C. Porter, 89, of Acacia Village, widow of Donald A., a former resident of Post St. Boonville and also Ellenton, FL, passed away while surrounded by the loving care of her family, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Masonic Care Community of New York.
Carol was born on November 22, 1936, in Mt. Kisco, NY (Westchester Co), grew up in Hawthorne, NY and graduated from Pleasantville High School. While in high school, Carol excelled at the sport of Field Hockey and Table Tennis. She furthered her education at SUNY New Paltz, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.
Later, Carol relocated to Boonville, where she taught first grade, for twenty two years, until retirement, for Adirondack Central School District in the Forestport Elementary School.
On July 21, 1978, Carol married the love of her life, Donald A. Porter, at the First Baptist Church, Boonville. Afterwards, the couple resided on Post Street for many years and later spent winters at Ellenton, FL, and summers at Stysh’s Brown Barn Campground, near Boonville.
Carol was a member of the United Methodist Church, both in Boonville and in Parrish, FL. She was also a member of Charles J. Love Post American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, The Red Hat Society, Thursday Afternoon Bowling League and a former active member of ACAL (Adirondack Citizens Advisory League), of Boonville. She greatly enjoyed attending school activities, especially musical programs and sporting events. An avid card player, Carol and Don were longtime members of a Saturday Night Pitch League in Boonville and enjoyed card games at Acacia Village. Carol also enjoyed boating and water skiing, as well as her great enjoyment of gardening, especially raising flowers. In 2022, Carol and Don moved to Acacia Village, Utica, where she relished a very active social life and cherished the many friends made at Acacia.
Carol is survived by her children; Susan Rickert (Bill Bursis), Hawley, PA, Stephen (Rosemary) Freeman, Overland Park, KS, Sandra (Albert) Foote, Trumansburg, NY; step children, Dr. Timothy (Allison) Porter, Wildwood, FL, David (Melissa) Porter, Frankfort, NY, grandchildren; Mark (Georgette) Howard, Shobola, PA, Samantha Mackerley, Hawley, PA, Timothy (Gabrielle) Rickert, Honesdale, PA, Kenneth Freeman, Overland Park, KS; step grandchildren, Mark Ravanilla, San Diego, CA, Matthew Porter, Frankfort, NY and Willow Porter, Wildwood, FL.
Carol was predeceased by her husband, Don, an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict and teacher at Boonville Central School and later principal at Forestport Elementary School, Adirondack Central School District, on April 30, 2024; a brother, Richard Carpenter, and by two grandchildren, Kate Chrzan and Stephanie Freeman.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May1, 2026, from 11 am to 1 pm, with a Memorial Service starting at 1 pm at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville, with interment to follow for Carol and Don, in Boonville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boonville Fire Department, or to the special Survivor’s Fund, for firefighters injured while fighting the February 17, 2026, Abundant Life Church Fire; please mail to either fund at Boonville Fire Co. PO Box 164, Boonville, NY 13309.
