Clinton- Carol Ann (Redmond) Sperry, 82, of Cherrywood Blvd., passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, at The Grand in Utica, while surrounded by the loving care of her husband, Bob and family.
She was born in Port Leyden, On September 13, 1943, a daughter of Glenn and Bessie Burr Redmond, Sr. Carol Ann grew up on the Moose river Road, near Port Leyden and attended Port Leyden Central School, where she graduated with the Class of 1961. While in school she greatly enjoyed participating in cheer leading and singing.
On June 1, 1963, Carol Ann was united in marriage with Donald Sweeney, at the Congregational Church, Port Leyden. Afterwards the couple resided on Lincoln St. Port Leyden, before constructing a home on the Moose River Road on property near where she grew up. Mr. Sweeney, an employee at Kraft Foods of Lowville, passed away on December 12, 1998.
Carol Ann began her employment at Lally Manufacturing Co., Port Leyden, where she advanced to Head Seamstress, a position which she held for many years. Later, for several years, she was employed as the supervisor seamstress, at Kristen International Ski Apparel Company, of Turin. Her last employments were in the finishing department at Ethan Allen Furniture Co. Boonville and as a line employee at Kraft Foods Co. of Lowville.
On July 25, 2002, Carol Ann was united in marriage with Robert Sperry, at the Bethel Baptist Church, Prospect, NY. Afterwards the couple lived on Rt. 274, near Holland Patent, before living on Wheelock Drive, Boonville, and also in New York Mills, before moving to their present home near Clinton.
While growing up and living in the Port Leyden area, Carol Ann was an active member of The Congregational Church, Port Leyden, where she sang in the choir for many years. At the present time she was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Prospect.
In addition to her great talents as a seamstress, Carol Ann will be fondly remembered as a fantastic baker, who was renowned for her apple and lemon pies. She also found great enjoyment in woodworking and was very creative at making and painting wooden lawn figures and bird houses. She also greatly enjoyed mowing the lawn and piling wood and being outdoors.
In addition to her husband, Bob, Carol Ann is survived by her daughters, Christina Poste, Lisbon, NY, and Kimberly (Rodney) Grower, Boonville; grandchildren, Bridgett Quiles, (Abel), Kristi Schoof (Russell), Amanda Kogut (Michael), Chad Miller (Amy), Shannon Miller, and Jamie Rundle (Conner); thirteen great grandchildren and one brother, Glenn (Cindy) Redmond, Port Leyden. She was predeceased by her parents, Glenn and Bessie Redmond and a son in law, Jerry Poste.
Her Funeral will be on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 12:00 Noon at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. where Rev. Cecil Morris, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church of Prospect will officiate. Interment will be in Port Leyden Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Residential Activities Fund at The Grand at Utica, ATTN: Recreation at 1657 Sunset Avenue, Utica, NY 13502.
