Forestport- Bernadine T. McCarthy, 77, of Loucks Road, wife of William F., passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. At The Pines of Utica, Rehabilitation Center.

Affectionately known as “Bernie” she was born in the Bronx, NY, on June 11, 1949, a daughter of William and Margaret Bohan Angst. Bernie grew up in New York City and on Long Island, graduating from Assisium High School, Manhattan, with the Class of 1967.

On October 16, 1971, Berrie was united in marriage with William F. McCarthy, at St. Mary of the Isle Church, Long Beach, L.I.

Later the couple relocated to Forestport, where they resided on Loucks Road and raised their family. For many years, while living in New Jersey and Forestport, Bernie and William served as foster parents, giving a loving home experience over the years to over seventy children, many who returned over the years to express their gratitude for Bernie and William for all of their kindnesses.

For over thirty years, until her retirement in 2015, Mrs. McCarthy was employed as a facilities manger for the United Cerebral Palsy System, in Boonville and also at facilities in the Utica area.

Bernie was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed cooking and baking and providing a loving home for her husband and family and for their foster family.

In addition to her husband, William, Bernie is survived by a son and daughter in law, William Jr. and Emy; a daughter, Nancy; grandchildren, Evan and Gemma. Also surviving are Bernie’s and William’s best friends, Gary and Michele Robertson and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 5:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St., where Rev. Thomas Ward, pastor of Christ Our Hope Parish, will officiate. Calling hours are also Monday, from 2-5 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Tribute Program, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101.
