Barbara R. Smith

Forestport- Barbara R. (Zemenz) Smith, 81, of Woodhull Road, widow of Gary J., passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Wynn Hospital, Utica.

Barbara was born in Utica, on May 26, 1944, a daughter of Edward and Dorothy M. Wells Zemenz. During her youth she moved with her family from Utica, to Forestport, where she completed her education, graduating from Forestport Central School, with the Class of 1961. Later, Mrs. Smith was elected to the office of Forestport Town Clerk, an office which she held for many years, faithfully serving her community.

Barbara was united in marriage with Gary James Smith. A veteran of the Vietnam Era, Mr. Smith passed away on April 14, 2006.

She enjoyed doing puzzles, and playing board games.

Barbara is survived by her children, Kathryn (Kirk) Dudek, Dansville, NY, Jocasa Relf, Longs, South Carolina, Jeffrey (Jill) Broadbent, Rome, NY and Corina Howland, Forestport, NY; twelve grandchildren; Amanda, Brandon, Caleb, Dustin, Matthew, Leah, Sydney, Connor, Sierra, Kaylee, Joshua and Abby, several great grandchildren and two sisters in law, Janelle Kranbuhl and Holly Diamond. She was predeceased by a great granddaughter, Addelaide Mae Taylor and by a brother, Ronald Zemenz.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where her son in law, Pastor Kirk Dudek, will officiate and where calling hours will be Friday, from 11:00 A.M. until the services. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery, Forestport.
