Boonville- Shirley (Newman) Linck, 90, formerly of East Road and husband of Harold G., passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Samaritan Summit Village, Watertown, where she had resided since 2019.
Shirley was born in Boonville, on March 8, 1934, a daughter of Charles W. and Sadie Sasenbury Newman. She grew up in Boonville and graduated from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1951. She was first employed as a telephone operator for General Telephone Co. of Boonville. Later from 1967 until her retirement in 1999, Mrs. Linck was employed as District Audio Visual Coordinator at Adirondack Central School, Boonville. From 1970, until her retirement she also headed the lighting and sound systems for the yearly Adirondack Musical Productions.
On October 11, 1952, Shirley was married to Harold G. Linck, in the Boonville Methodist Church. Mr. Linck, who was a Marine Veteran in the Pacific Theater of WWII, and a long-time employee of General Electric Co., Utica, passed away on January 1, 2007.
She was a member of Ava Methodist Church, Dodge Pratt Northam Art and Community Center, Boonville Historical Society and an active member of Adirondack Citizens Advisory League, (A.C.A.L.) She was also a long-time member of the Board of Directors of Boonville-Oneida County Fair, where she also was in charge of the large Oneida County Horse Show; for several years, Mrs. Linck operated the information booth at the fair and served as a ticket seller for the New York State Woodsmen’s Field Days. For many years Shirley served as a 4-H leader for the Foothills 4-H Club and also served as a Girl Scout Troop leader and a Sunday school teacher.
In later years, Shirley greatly enjoyed and excelled in creating beautiful stained glass lamps, sun catchers and many types of ornaments.
In addition to her life-long interest in horses and all kinds of equestrian activities, Shirley was an animal lover, who was particularly devoted to the welfare of cats. Her passion for feline welfare, extended beyond her home and she dedicated countless hours to “trap, neuter and release,” of feral cats, as well as working with local cat shelters, insuring that many cats found loving homes.
She is survived by one daughter and son in law, Valerie Linck and Tom Wilson, Andover, VT and special family members, Ron and Eleanor Cyr, Wellesley Island and Boonville; HopeAnn (Al) LoPresti, Alexandria Bay, NY; Dale Cyr, Rockville, MD, Mary-Elizabeth (James) Wratten, Adams, NY; Kathryn Cyr, Edinburgh, United Kingdom; Michael LoPresti and Joseph LoPresti, Alexandria Bay, NY.

Her Funeral will be Friday, June 14, 2024, at 3:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where visitation hours will be Friday 1-3 P.M. Interment will follow in West Leyden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio Street, Utica, NY 13502.
