Leona H. Stump

Leona H. (Seelman) Stump, 91, widow of Francis, and a resident of the Moose River Road in the Town of Lyonsdale for thirty years, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at the Pontiac Care Nursing Home in Oswego, where she had resided since December 30, 2005. In 2002, Mrs. Stump moved from her home in the Town of Lyonsdale to Hastings NY, where she resided with her niece, Arlene E. Platt until August, 2004. Leona was born in Rome, on August 16, 1915, a daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Kirk Seelman. She grew up in the area of Holland Patent and Floyd where she attended a rural school, and after that she attended Holland Patent High School. Later she attended a beautician school in Syracuse, and was employed as a beautician in the Syracuse area. Mrs. Stump was employed for Rome Cable Co., and then for General Electric of Utica, retiring in 1971, after fifteen years of employment at G.E. After that she was employed in the house keeping and laundry department at Marcy Psychiatric Center, Marcy, NY. On June 11, 1960, Leona was united in marriage with Francis Stump at St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church of Rome. Mr. Stump died on August 10, 1981. For many years she greatly enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers in a large garden, and she loved her pet cats and all animals. Mrs. Stump is survived by a sister, Florence M. Platt, Rome, and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers: Howard, Ervin and Harold Seelman, and by one sister, Lorena Smith. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, January 6, 2007, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church of Rome. There are no calling hours. Interment will be at a later date in St. Maryï¿(TM)s Cemetery of Rome. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Rome, Inc., 6247 Lamphear Road, Rome, NY 13440.
