Katherine F. Handy

Alder Creek- Katherine F. (Sweet) Handy, 65, of Phillips Road, passed away suddenly at her residence on Monday, July 21, 2008. A native of Utica, Katherine was born on May 6, 1943; a daughter of Charles and Catherine Sweet. Her younger life was spent in Oriskany, where she attended school. She later graduated from Oneonta College. Mrs. Handy was employed as a speech therapist at Rome Development Center, from 1965, until retiring in 1981. At that time she moved from Stanwix Heights to Alder Creek. She is survived by one son and daughter in law; Robert C. Smith and Amy, Boonville, two grandchildren, Crystal McDougal, Old Forge, Justin A. Smith, at home, one brother, Charles Sweet, and wife, Nikki, Alabama, a dear family friend, Christopher Curry, Remsen. She also leaves behind her four beloved dogs, and several horses. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Friday at 7:00 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. There are no calling hours, and memorial contributions may be made to the Stevens-Swann Humane Society 5664 Horatio St. Utica, NY 13502.
