Donald R. Satterly, 64, of East Road, affectionately known as "Bob," husband of Linda A. (Kraeger) Satterly, a former resident of the Zimmer Road, near Constableville, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville.
Don was born in Constableville, on May 11, 1948, a son of Donald A. and Zeta Leffingwell Satterly; he grew up in Boonville, where he graduated from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1966. Thereafter he attended and graduated from Albany Business Institute where he received an Associate's Degree.
For fifteen years, Mr. Satterly was employed at Revere Copper & Brass Co. of Rome, completing his employment at Revere as Foreman of the Cast Shop. Later he was employed for several years as a life insurance agent for the Knights of Columbus Insurance Co. For the past several years until the present time, Don was employed as the Parish and Business Manager of Christ Our Hope Catholic Parish consisting of St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, St. Patrick's Church, Forestport and St. Mary's of the Snow Church, Otter Lake and St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville.
On February 14, 1974, Donald was united in marriage with Linda A. Kraeger, at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. After their marriage the couple lived in West Leyden and near Constableville, moving to their present home in 1998.
Mr. Satterly was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, where he served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Altar Server at funerals in all three churches of Christ Our Hope Parish. He was a member and past Grand Knight of South Lewis Council Knights of Columbus # 7794, of St. Hedwig's Church, Houseville, a former member of West Leyden Fire Department, and a former member and former president of the Boonville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Don enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, working in his garden, where he raised many vegetables, finding a special joy in giving away the fruits of his labor. He will be fondly remembered for his keen sense of humor and for the many ways that Don reached out to help people wherever he was. In addition to his wife and family, Don found his greatest joy in life in the Christmas Season; for many years he reveled in bringing the special joy of Christmas to children.
In addition to his wife, Linda, Don is survived by his children, Vincent and Michelle Satterly, Chris and Crystal Fox, Todd and Dorothy Martin, Darrel and Annie Roser, John and Molly Potter, Katie Satterly and Fiancée Andy Cihocki; and grandchildren, Jasmyn Davila, Joshua and Samantha Satterly, Jessica, Savanna, Theresa, Teaghan and Mitchell Fox, Tyler, Emmalie and Kyle Martin, Darrel, Stacy and Sarah Roser, J.J. and Macey Potter, Madison Cihocki, Justin Levensailor, a special great grandson, Lucas Fox and many other children who called him "Grandpa." He is also survived by a brother, William "Satch" Satterly and a sister and brother in law, Hope and Terry Swiernik, a stepbrother, Jerry and Karen King, and stepsister, Patty King. He is also survived by his loving canine pet "Bitsy." He was predeceased by his father, Donald A. Satterly, in 1963 and by his mother, Zeta Satterly King, in 2005.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Sean Patrick O'Brien, on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, under the co-direction of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc, and Mills Funeral Home, both of Boonville. Interment in the spring will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville. Calling hours are Friday 1-3 P.M. and 5-8 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
